Roll Call All CERT & MRC Members!
Welcome to the new CERT website serving the citizens of Schoolcraft County and the surrounding area. Take a moment and check out our site. Our site contains a lot of useful information that you should know in the event of a local disaster or emergency.
CERT is alive and well within our County
with over 30 current members trained, equipped, and ready to go.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency
(FEMA), using the model created by the Los Angeles City Fire
Department, began promoting nationwide use of the Community
Emergency Response Team (CERT) concept in 1994. Since then, CERTs
have been established in hundreds of communities. We have a number
of CERT teams throughout the UP.
CERT training promotes a partnering
effort between our emergency services and the people that they
serve. The goal is for our emergency personnel to train members of
our neighborhoods, community organizations, or workplaces in basic
response skills. Our CERT members are then integrated into the
emergency response capability for our area.
If a disaster overwhelms or delays our
community's professional response, our CERT members can assist their
family members, neighbors, and others by applying the basic response
and organizational skills that they learned during their CERT
training. These skills can save and sustain lives following a
disaster until help arrives. CERT skills also apply to daily
emergencies.
We are now beginning to plan our next training session. If you want more information on our local CERT training, please contact Agneta Billings at (906) 644-2343 or (906) 399-1507 or email. To contact Sabrina, the assistant coordinator call (906) 280-8286 or email.
